Mercury IT Governance Center 7.0 — What’s New, What’s Improved?

Mercury IT Governance Center provides visibility and control over the demands being made of IT, your portfolio of IT projects, and the roll-out of strategic changes. With Mercury IT Governance Center, you get total transparency regarding IT priorities, projects, and investments. Mercury IT Governance Center also helps you lower the cost of compliance with regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley by automating processes, required controls, and reporting, and supports quality programs and process control frameworks such as Six-Sigma, CMMI, and CobiT.

What’s New
In support of our recent introduction of Mercury BTO Enterprise — the first integrated suite of BTO offerings designed to optimize the business outcome of IT — Mercury IT Governance Center 7.0 includes the following new features and functionality.

Enterprise Level Project Management
Managing projects at the enterprise level today is dramatically different from managing them at the departmental level. Enterprises are dealing with portfolios of hundreds of projects and teams that are distributed geographically, across departments, and include external partners, outsourcers, and off-shore teams. Mercury IT Governance Center 7.0 introduces critical new functionality to manage a project portfolio at the enterprise level.

Because project planning and scheduling activities are complex and require high levels of interactions, project management offerings have relied on fat client applications, Java applets, and plug-ins which introduce a high level of administrative overhead and higher TCO because of the need to install client software and keep it in sync across vast numbers of users. With Mercury IT Governance Center 7.0, Mercury is the first vendor to introduce highly interactive features implemented through a 100 percent zero-client solution for project scheduling, project, resource, time, portfolio, and demand management. This eliminates the high TCO of other offerings and supports the needs of a distributed enterprise.

Portfolio Management Optimization
Mercury IT Governance Center 7.0 supports multiple levels of maturity in PMO and project management, while also enforcing enterprise standards and compliance. For example, competing products approach planning only from a bottom-up perspective (build detailed schedules first) that is based on how you manage the execution of an approved project — while this may work when you are dealing with a handful of projects, it breaks down when you are trying to prioritize hundreds of projects. Mercury’s approach blends top-down planning that leverages high-level resource profiles with capacity information derived from details of active projects.

Also in 7.0, you can now create unlimited what-if scenarios in which you can specify different constraint criteria (risk, value, alignment, type of investment, ROI, etc.) that the application uses to automatically calculate the best matching list of projects to accelerate the prioritization and approval process. In addition, support of German and French has been added with the 7.0 release for international organizations.
